How many characters really fit?

Eighteen is the ceiling, but it isn't the sweet spot. Short names — Ava, Sophia, Madison — set large and read cleanly across the cover. A long double-barrelled name will be set smaller to fit the same space, which flattens the effect of debossing, because a shallow indent needs a certain letter size to catch light. If the name you have in mind is fifteen characters or more, look at the preview carefully before saving; a first name alone often looks better than a full one.

Printed, foiled or pressed?
