The most practical colour we make

A black or charcoal ground hides everything that ages a case: the fingerprints along the opening edge, the corner rub from a bag, the scuff from a set of keys. If you carry your Kindle loose and want it to look the same in two years, this is the group to buy from. It is also the group that works in any room and any office, which the brighter prints don't always.

The one thing it doesn't do

Personalization. A debossed monogram is an indent that reads by catching light, and on a near-black cover in flat overhead lighting it is close to invisible. If you want initials or a name that shows, buy a mid-tone ground instead — the sages and neutrals show pressed lettering far better.
