Antique gold on dark grounds — gilt florals, marble veining, constellations, ornate frames and gilded book bindings. The smallest colour group and the most gift-ready one, because gold on midnight is the combination that photographs well and looks expensive out of the box.

Is the gold foil?

No. It is printed artwork on the front cover, which is deliberate: foil is a raised layer and raised layers lift at the corners after a year in a bag. Printed gold stays put. The one place we press rather than print is personalization, and that is debossed — an indent in the cover, never gold lettering on top of it.

What to expect in person

Gold on a matte dark ground shows fingerprints along the opening edge more than a tonal design does. It wipes off with a slightly damp cloth in seconds, but if you want a case you never think about, the greens or neutrals are the lower-maintenance choice.
